Can I send you over a 3 month supply? Also we are running a promotion this month and if your order exceeds $2000 we will ship for free and will include a free iPad for you!”
Don’t fall prey to this old scam
Your blanket service agreement with CIP always includes free toner – you do not pay anything additional for toner. Please be aware that a number of our customers have been victimized in the past month by these unscrupulous operators and sold them toner cartridges for outrageously high prices.
How the Toner Pirate operates
These toner pirates will call, fax or email your office to obtain some basic information about your equipment from an unsuspecting employee and then send out an order confirmation for toner for your Sharp printer. They will ask for a credit card or purchase order with the ruse that you are getting a special discount, free shipping or sometimes a prize like a free Ipad for placing the order today.
Several of our customers have fell prey to this evil scam and they have little or no recourse to send back the toner and recover their money – if it indeed the toner even arrives.
Slick talking criminals have been pulling this scam for years and have cost their victims – small and large businesses, schools, government agencies, and non-profit institutions an estimated $100 Million per year in North America.
How to protect yourself
Be aware – do not give out equipment information to anyone.
CIP Document Solutions provides you with free toner as part of our Blanket Service Agreement and we know who you are and what equipment you have. We do not call to confirm or verify any of this information.
Your Sharp printer is equipped with a Toner Smart feature that alerts us when you need toner and we will confirm your need and automatically send you toner for free when the machine tells us to.
CIP Document Solutions does not use any third party for any billing or shipping of your toner.
If you think you are a recipient of one of these calls just tell them you have to check. Get their phone number and company name. They usually just hang up right then.
